μ-OPEN, reads /’MIU OPEN/, is an online publication venue of the Mathematical Institute Utrecht launched to serve outreach content for a general audience and provide recognition for students. All content in μ-OPEN is produced by students at bachelor’s and master’s level and is available under CC-BY open access license to facilitate re-use without barriers. Articles are carefully curated by the editor.
Scope and goals
The key goals of μ-OPEN are 1) to recognise student works with high outreach potential and expose these works to the general audience, 2) facilitate knowledge co-production and transfer outside the university, and 3) promote public understanding of science in general. The content of the articles is not necessarily scientifically novel, however it provides captivating insights into interesting topics at the level that is comprehensible to a curious high school student. Our articles often take the lens of scientific journalism and cover research projects undertaken during bachelor and master studies. We do not publish technical summaries or specialized articles.
